As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to live in the country. I pictured acres with a garden, a few animals and working the land. As nice of a dream this way, it wasn't 100% practical when you have bills and responsibilities considering the lack of jobs in the country. A compromise to both the country lifestyle and being responsible is found in the urban homesteading movement.
Planning is important when starting an urban homestead. With limited space, it is important to plan the layout to maximize the usable space. What animals are allowed, their uses and space requirements are also important in the planning phase of the homestead.
We are just at the beginning of our planning stages, one thing we have agreed on it slowly improving the area that will become our garden over three years. Building a third of the garden each year.
